PME at ICME10
The aims of PME are to promote international contact about
the Psychology of Mathematics Education, to promote
interdisciplinary research and to deepen an understanding of the psychology
of teaching and learning of mathematics. It is our desire to foster
these aims by bringing the existence and more importantly the work of
PME members to the attention of a wider audience. PME has a rich history
and a prolific archive of research, of which many outside the PME community
may not be aware. ICME10 Congress Programme have 4 one hour slots for
presenting PME research work to ICME participants.
For ICME10, four key areas of PME research and theoretical base were
chosen as exemplars of PME contribution to knowledge and its work as
a collaborative community. In each of these four areas, a member or
members of PME were asked to present a review of PME research. The following
are the area headings, and the presenters:
Monday 5th – ASG I
Children’s Early Mathematical Development.
Joanne Mulligan, Australia & Gerard Vergnaud, France
Wednesday 7th – ASG II
The Influence of Social Context on the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics.
